SolidWorks is a solid modelling computer-aided design and computer-aided engineering computer program by Dassault Systems. The software primarily runs on Microsoft Windows.

Today, SolidWorks is one of the most commonly used CAD programs. It provides enhanced engineering and design performances that help you get your work done easier and faster. It is suited for beginners as well as advanced users.

Steps to download Solidworks for free

Open your web browser (Chrome, Firefox, safari, tor, etc.) whichever you are using and open a google search engine and type the keyword ‘Solidworks education evaluation’.

Once you search the keyword, you will see a number of website links. Click the link which has the heading ‘Request an Education Evaluation | SOLIDWORKS’ as shown in the image below. Probably, it will appear on top for you as well.

Once you click the link, it will redirect you to the SOLIDWORKS website. The website consists of a form that you need to fill to apply for your education evaluation copy.

The form asks for your personal details like first name, last name, e-mail, phone number, company you are associated with and a job function.

If you are a student don’t worry, just write your school/college/university name or simply type student and select student in a job function.

After you finish entering your data, hit the continue button.

You will prompt into step-2 of the form, wherein you have to select the country. Once you select the country you are from, it will show additional options asking for an address, city and postal code.

Another thing that you have to select is your level of interest. You can select the Browsing/General Interest in the level of interest option.

You need to agree with the privacy policy of SolidWorks in order to submit the form. So, if you want, you can read the privacy policy thoroughly by clicking the privacy policy link given there.

Hit the submit button after completing the form.

You will be greeted with Thank you for requesting page with some additional steps you need to follow to download SolidWorks.

Right-click on the Go to link and select open in new tab.

Go to that tab and fill in your contact details (first name, last name, e-mail and select an option that best represents you e.g. if you are a student, select student)

In the product information section, we do not have a serial number at the moment so select No and enter the SDK-ID given in point 2 (TEMPDL).

Select the version of SolidWorks you would like to download. I suggest you download the latest version.

After entering all the details, hit Request Download.

It will redirect you to SOLIDWORKS Community Access Initiative. Click Accept and Continue button to proceed with the download.

It will show all the serial numbers on the webpage and the button to download.

Create a doc file on your desktop. Copy all the serial numbers from the webpage and paste them on your doc file and save it. It will be required during installation.

You can download the Solidworks installer by hitting the Download button. It will download the installer which is about 32 MB in size.

How to install SolidWorks?

Open the file you have just downloaded. It will open WinZip Self-Extractor. Click Unzip.

After unzipping, click close.

The SolidWorks installation manager will open. As shown in the image below.

Select Install on this computer and click Next which is at the bottom right.

Enter the Serial Number you have saved in your doc file or if the serial key webpage is still open in your browser just enter the key looking from there. After entering Serial Number, Hit Next.

Now, it will show the list of products it is going to install. You can also change the installation location if you want. If you do not want to change, leave it as it is. You should accept the terms of SolidWorks to download and install it.

After accepting the terms of SolidWorks click Download and Install which is at the bottom right corner.

It will start downloading and installing SolidWorks on your pc. Once the installation is complete, you can open and use it.
