Nepal Medical Council (NMC) Registration and License Examination

The Nepal Medical Council (NMC), which was founded in 2020 BS, is responsible for registering certified doctors and allowing them to practice safe contemporary medicine. The Nepal Medical Council now performs a major role in the country, from registering doctors to conducting licensing exams, monitoring, and regulating medical education.

The responsibility of the National Medical Council (NMC) in medical education is being changed to the Health Professional Education Commission (HPEC) with the implementation of the new Health Professional Education Commission (HPEC) Bill. NMC along with the above-mentioned role will also concentrate on the following important areas of work.

• Medical license examinations and expert examinations should be held to higher standards
• Establish and enforce medical practitioners’ Continuous Professional Development
• In all aspects of healthcare, NMC will monitor, encourage and enforce the ethical medical practice

Medicine is one of the oldest and most recognized professions; it allows you to affect human life in a really unique way, and the job satisfaction you receive is incomparable.

Medicine is a service, not merely a job, in which one must put others first. The hard work and endless hours required to study medicine may appear to be a daunting endeavour, but the ability to save lives is well worth the effort.

Nepal produces thousands of doctors every year and there are few who study abroad and become a doctor. To begin their medical professions in Nepal, all MBBS and BDS graduates must pass the Nepal Medical Council licensing exam.

Often many find it difficult to register in Nepal Medical Council (NMC) after their graduation due to a lack of clear instructions about the process and the requirements.

So, in this article, I will try to cover all aspects one needs to follow and to get registered in NMC.

Types of Registration in Nepal Medical Council

The first thing you need to understand is the types of registration and in which category you intend to do registration. There are mainly five types of registration.

• Provision Registration
• Temporary Registration
• Permanent Registration
• Specialist Registration
• Foreign Nationals Doctors registration

You need to follow the process according to the type of registration you intend to do.

Steps to Register with Nepal Medical Council

You have to complete the following steps in order to complete your registration and examination process. Before starting the registration process, look into the list of below documents and make sure all these below-listed documents is with you during registration.

Documents needed for registration

• Attested copy of citizenship (both Sides)
• Passport Size Photo
• Self-Declaration form (download Self Declaration form, print it, fill details and upload the filled form later)
• SLC/Equivalent: Marksheet and Character certificate
•  +2/A-level./Equivalent: Marksheet or Transcript and Character certificate
• MBBS/BDS/Equivalent: Marksheet/Transcript, Passing/Provisional Certificate, Character Certificate
• Internship Certificate (Completion of at least 6 Months)
• Eligibility Certificate (only for students who studied in foreign countries)
• Native Language (only for students who studied in foreign countries)
• NMC/Other Medical Council/ Authorized body’s Provisional registration Certificate.

Note: Scan Image must be less than 2 MB. It should be on .gif .jpg .png .jpeg file format.

Let’s look into the steps you need to follow.

You need to visit Nepal Medical Council (NMC) website to do the registration. You can click here to access the registration portal.

• Once you open the portal, you need to fill in your personal details like name, gender, marital status, email and password. (तपाईंले पोर्टल खोल्नुभएपछि, तपाईंले नाम, लिङ्ग, वैवाहिक स्थिति, इमेल र पासवर्ड जस्ता व्यक्तिगत विवरणहरू भर्नुपर्छ।)
• The verification link to your email comes after you submit with your email ID and password when applying for an exam. Your ID is ready once it is verified (परीक्षाका लागि आवेदन दिंदा आफ्नो email ID र password सहित SUBMIT गरेपछि तपाईंको email मा verification link आउँछ । त्यसलाई प्रमाणित गरेपछि तपाईंको ID तयार हुन्छ ।)
• You should go on uploading the information and paperwork as given in the form after logging in with the email and password used during registration. (ID तयार पार्दा प्रयोग भएको email र password राखेर log inगरेपछि फारममा दिएअनुसारको सूचना र कागजपत्रहरु upload गर्दै जानुपर्दछ ।)
• You will be asked to make payment. You can pay through E-sewa. (तपाईंलाई भुक्तानी गर्न सोधिनेछ। ई-सेवा मार्फत भुक्तानी गर्न सकिन्छ।)
• The ‘verification on process’ appears until the form you have submitted isn’t verified by the council, by that time the information can be edited using your ID (तपाईंले बुझाएको फारम काउन्सिलबाट verify नभएसम्म ‘verification on process’ देखिन्छ, यसबेलासम्म आफ्नो ID प्रयोगगरी सूचनाहरु edit गर्न सकिन्छ ।)
• After verification, the ‘verification on process’ disappears and cannot be edited. If you need to edit for some reason, it can be edited once a request has been made to the council via email (nmc@nmc.org.np). (verification भएपछि ‘verification on process’ देखिन छाड्छ र यसपछि edit गर्न मिल्दैन । कुनै कारणबस edit गर्नु परेमा काउन्सिलको आधिकारीक email (nmc@nmc.org.np)  मा निवेदन दिई अनुमति प्राप्त भएपछि edit गर्न सकिन्छ ।)
• The council will send an admit card that can be accessed from Action >> Generate Admit Card. You can download it or print it directly. (काउन्सिलबाट प्रवेशपत्र पठाएपछि action मा generate admit card देखिन्छ । त्यसमा थिचेर प्रवेशपत्र download गरी वा नगरी print गर्न सकिन्छ ।)

Photo requirement

Since the photo, you submit when applying for an exam will be printed on your registration certificate, it must be taken within six months, coloured, and seen on a straight camera with both ears visible, eyes open, and passport size that seems clear.

If you must wear glasses, they should not be rolled. Except for particularly religious reasons, the head is open and without jewellery, the backdrop is basic and light-coloured, and there is no border. 

The face must upload a photo that is proportionally lit, unshadowed, and the eye is not red from the flush, and the focus is mixed.

Steps after Online Registration

Once you finish online registration, you will receive a verification message from Nepal Medical Council. After that, you have to submit original copies of your documents.

For those who have studied within Nepal:

• 2 copies of the payment statement paid from E-sewa
• An application form that is scanned and uploaded during online registration, Self-declaration form, Affidavit and Original Copy of Internship Completion Statement 
• A copy of the Internship Completion Certificate certified by the Permanent Physician, you also have to self-certify it by writing Sakal Bamojim Nakal Sahi Cha
• 1 copy of Admit Card of Licensing Exam of Nepal Medical Council
• Original copy of Provisional Registration Certificate issued by Nepal Medical Council
• 4 copies of PP size photo uploaded while submitting an online application for registration certificate exam
• 1 copy of sample Certificate that is automatically generated from the system after the registration application

For those who have studied outside Nepal:

• 2 copies of the payment statement paid from E-sewa
• An application form that is scanned and uploaded during online registration, Self-declaration form, Affidavit and Original Copy of Internship Completion Statement 
• A copy of the Internship Completion Certificate certified by the Permanent Physician, you also have to self-certify it by writing Sakal Bamojim Nakal Sahi Cha
• 1 copy of Admit Card of Licensing Exam of Nepal Medical Council
• One copy of all educational qualification certificates obtained above SLC / SEE, eligibility certificate issued by Nepal Medical Council, Internship Completion Certificate and copy of citizenship certified by Permanent Physician, and Self-certified by writing  Sakal Bamojim Nakal Sahi Cha
• 4 copies of PP size photo uploaded while submitting an online application for registration certificate exam
• Sample Certificate Print 1 copy automatically generated from the system after the registration application

After above steps

You will receive notification via SMS if your NMC Certificate is ready.

If your admit card has to be recovered from the system and printed again, you must deposit Rs.500/- in the Nepal SBI Bank’s NMC account.

If your NMC Certificate has to be changed or corrected after it has been printed, you must deposit Rs.1000/- in the Nepal SBI Bank’s NMC account.
