Nepal Nursing Council is an autonomous body established by the Nepal Nursing Council Act 2052, which was enacted by the Government of Nepal with the goal of improving the effectiveness of nursing services in the country, as well as scientific management and mobilization of nurses based on their qualifications.

Nursing in Nepal began in 1956 at Bir Hospital. In Nepal, nursing educational programs such as Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM), Proficiency Certificate Level (PCL), Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Nursing, Master in Nursing, and Master of Science in Nursing are now available.

Nepal Nursing Council as part of their goal accredits nursing courses and monitors nursing education facilities in order to provide excellent nursing care to the people of Nepal.

All nurses must be registered in order to aid with workforce planning, nurse immigration, and professional misconduct reporting.

 

Nepal Nursing Council License Exam

The license examination for nurses is a national, standardized examination for nurses developed by the Nepal Nursing Council. The test is practical in nature, focusing on the work activities that are most typically needed by entry-level nurses. The exam assesses current medical knowledge and nursing competence, as well as eligibility to get a nurse license and begin working as a nurse.

This National Licensure Examination for Nurses is required of all new graduates from the Proficiency Certificate Level (P.C.L.) and Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs (B.Sc.N.). To appear for the National Licensure Examination, you must have graduated or completed your nursing study in P.C.L. or B.Sc. N. Before they may work as a nursing practitioner, all P.C.L. and B.Sc. N graduates must pass the National Licensure Examination.

Who can apply for Nepal Nursing Council License?

(A) Nepali citizen graduated from Nepal

  • To meet the professional education requirement for licensure as a qualified professional nurse, candidates must present satisfactory evidence of having received at least a four-year degree (B.Sc N.) or 3 years of Proficiency Certificate Level (Diploma level) program that is approved by the Nepal Nursing Council. 

(B) Nepali citizens graduated from other countries 

  • Applicants, who have completed general nursing education out of the country, must have their equivalence certificate from the concerned authority. 

(C) Foreigners graduated from Nepal 

  • Foreign applicants, who have completed a nursing program from Nepal approved by NNC, must submit the required documents. 

(D) Foreigners graduated from other countries

  • A person who was sent from governmental organizations or international cooperation agencies is not required to sit in the National Licensure Examination for Nurses in Nepal.
  • A person, who come to Nepal voluntarily on an individual basis to work, must sit in the National Licensure Examination for Nurses. Person, who stay with tourist visas are not allowed to apply.

Application Procedure

You can apply for Nepal Nursing Council License Exam online. To submit your application for the license exam, you can visit this link.

  1. You need to fill in your personal details like name, parents name, DOB, email and password to register yourself.
  2. Once you register, you will receive an email from Nepal Nursing Council with the activation link. Click the link to proceed forward. If you do not find an email in your inbox, check spam.
  3. You need to log in with an email id and password you used to register earlier to lodge your application.

 

Documents Requirement

The scanned copy of the original should be uploaded while lodging your application. The file should be in image format, for example, .jpg

For PCL Nursing

  • Marksheet and character certificate of SLC
  • Citizenship
  • PCL Marksheet or transcript

  • Recent passport size photo

For B.Sc. Nursing

  • Marksheet and character certificate of SLC

For Foreign Nurse

  • Certificate of nursing education degree
  • Certified copy of a transcript from a nursing degree in original language and Nepali
  • Certificate of home country registration as a nurse
  • Recommendation letter from the organization in which applicant is going to
  • Valid visa or citizenship for applicants who don’t require a visa to enter Nepal
  • Recent passport size photo

Once an application is lodged successfully. Nepal Nursing Council will assess your documents and if all the requirements are fulfilled, you will receive admit/examination card with entry number, date and time of examination.

The name of the examination centre will be communicated to you via email 2 days prior to the examination.

Note:

  • If you change your name and/or address after submitting an application for licensure, you must notify the NNC immediately in order to document receive current information. You are required to submit legal documentation of any change to the NNC immediately after the change occurs.
  • Your name must match EXACTLY as it appears on photo identification that will be at the test centre. The same name must also be used to the NLEN online at the time you registers in order to prevent delays with issuing examination authorization.

Frequency of License Exam

  • The license exam is held three times a year by the Nepal Nursing Council. If an applicant fails one of the exams, he or she will be able to apply for the following one.

Fee

  • The fee for the National Licensure Examination for Nurses is NRs. 1600 which you can pay through E-Sewa. Fees are non-refundable even if an applicant is found ineligible.

Scoring System

  • There is no negative scoring system. It means when you give a wrong answer, there will be no penalty. Marks count for only correct answers.

Passing Standard

  • The grading system on Licensure Examination for Nurses is either Pass or Fail.
  • There will be no numerical score issued. 
  • To pass the National Licensure Examination, the candidate must receive at least 50% of the total marks.

Examination

  • The examination will last two and a half hours (2:30 hours).
  • After 15 minutes after the commencement of the examination, applicants are not permitted to enter the examination room.
  • Applicants are only permitted to leave the room one hour after the test begins.

Nepal Nursing Council Result

  • The result for National Licensure Examination will be published on the same day in case of technical fault may take a week after the examination.
  • The results will be posted on the Nursing Council’s notice board as well as on the NNC’s website. 
  • The Nursing Council will not contact the candidates personally.

Registration

  • Once you pass NLEN successfully, you can apply for registration to get your nursing license from Nepal Nursing Council.
  • The registration fee is NRs. 800 which you can pay via E-Sewa.
  • Application is required within a month of the NLEN examination result.
  • You need to bring admit cared with two passport size photographs used during registrations.
  • You need to bring original citizenship and documents.
