The Ireland Government Scholarship also known as the Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Programme is a well-established national initiative run by the Council and financed by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science.

The Irish Research Council collaborates with enterprise, civil society, and with the government to leverage the skills, knowledge, and talent of researchers to achieve maximum benefit for society.

The Ireland Government Scholarship Programme is unique in the Irish research environment. Some of its characteristics are
  • Individual, prestigious prizes in the applicant’s name for outstanding research
  • An impartial selection procedure based on worldwide, independent expert peer review
  • Financing across all disciplines, from archaeology to zoology
  • With the exception of those sponsored by our strategic funding partners, including prizes for bottom-up, non-directed research

The scholarship encourages proposals covering new and emerging topics of study, as well as those offering creative, and novel techniques.
